Introducing Kitaru Lumberyard: Beyond Reclaimed Ironwood

At Kaltimber, we’ve always stayed focused on what we do best: reclaimed Borneo ironwood. It’s what defines us and what we’ve built our reputation on. But over the years, many architects, builders, and clients have come to us asking for other types of hardwood for different projects. That’s why we created Kitaru Lumberyard—a sister company within the Kaltimber family—dedicated to offering a broader range of responsibly sourced timber species.

While Kaltimber continues to specialize in 100% reclaimed Ulin, Kitaru steps in to meet demand for other wood types—still with the same emphasis on quality, traceability, and legal sourcing, primarily from East Kalimantan and Central Java.

What’s in the Yard?

Kitaru carries a selection of reclaimed and legally sourced hardwoods that cover a wide range of structural and decorative applications. All come with detailed data sheets, making it easy for specifiers and builders to match materials to their project needs. In addition to timber, Kitaru also offers a curated line of high-end hardware for decking, flooring, and beam fixtures—soon to be complemented by a premium finishing range.

Kapur – Versatile and Durable

Kapur (Dryobalanops lanceolata) is a classic Southeast Asian hardwood known for its balance of strength and workability. With a rich reddish-brown tone and a fine, workable grain, Kapur fits just as well in structural roles—like beams, trusses, or exterior joinery—as it does in interiors: flooring, furniture, cabinetry. It’s naturally termite- and fungus-resistant, making it reliable for both outdoor and semi-exposed areas.

Key uses:
• Exterior joinery and cladding
• Roof trusses and structural framing
• Flooring and staircases
• Boardwalks and bridges

Meranti – Lightweight Elegance for Interiors

Meranti (Shorea spp) is the go-to hardwood for high-end interiors and general construction. It’s easy to work with, holds nails well, and has a refined finish—ideal for moldings, cabinetry, and custom furniture. Our batches include a mix of certified white, red, and yellow Meranti, with options available in both reclaimed and sustainably harvested stock.

Key uses:
• Interior paneling and veneer
• Furniture and cabinetry
• Doors and window frames
• Decorative plywood

Bangkirai – Outdoor Performance, Proven

Known also as Yellow Balau, Bangkirai (Shorea laevis) is one of the most dependable hardwoods for outdoor projects. Dense, heavy, and naturally resistant to rot and pests, Bangkirai is a favorite for decking, cladding, pergolas, and structures in high-exposure environments like marinas, garden paths, or commercial boardwalks. Over time, it weathers beautifully to a silver-gray tone without losing its structural integrity.

Key uses:
• Decking and terraces
• Pergolas and outdoor fencing
• Cladding and façades
• Docks, bridges, and wet zones

Teak – The Timeless Choice

Teak (Tectona grandis) needs no introduction. It's the gold standard for both luxury interiors and rugged outdoor use, thanks to its dense grain, rich natural oils, and decades-long lifespan. Whether you're building poolside furniture, a teak deck, or a premium indoor floor, this wood combines performance and aesthetics better than most.

Key uses:
• High-end furniture
• Boat building and marine applications
• Interior flooring and finishes
• Exterior decking for luxury projects

Need Something Else?

Kitaru doesn’t stop at the above list. We can also source other species on request, depending on project specs and regional availability. The idea is simple: offer more timber options without compromising on quality or ethics.

For builders and designers who trust Kaltimber for reclaimed Ulin, Kitaru Lumberyard is your go-to source for everything else.
