Rustic Furniture - Preserving History In Style

As we needed to make space for new wood deliveries, we thought we would turn some amazing pieces into….well…something even MORE amazing! Furniture, to be precise.

When we source wood, we preminilarly focus our attention on boards that are as close as possible to the ideal dimensions we need to turn them into decking, flooring or ceiling.

We buy truckloads of them and, after a lengthy process of denailing, factory machinery and manual processing, we get the end result our clientele is of both private owners and world renowned architects are so fond of.

However, we sometimes cannot say no to massive stunning logs that are very far from what we ideally source, but that are way too beautiful to say no to. So when our Kalimantan sourcing teams come up with something like this, how can we resist?

That being said, we then need to find how to use them and it could be very tricky because decking or flooring are pretty much out of the question. But how to preserve the majestic look of rare finds like this? Rustic furniture.

This is what we did for these two benches for example. Removing nails and filling some of the asperities to make something safe and comfortable isn’t as easy as it looks!

But the result… sold the day after being put on the market!

Same thinking was applied to pieces of a boat we salvaged in a remote area of East Kalimantan.

The curvy shape was definitely not suitable for our main products, but the story was too great to pass on so we created a rustic (some would say “steampunk”) style table.

Decking, ceiling or ceiling is our daily bread, but it is fun for our staff to do something different. There are also unique opportunities for our customers to enjoy furniture nobody else will ever get!
